Users already see advertising between friends’ Stories and on Discover, but storytellers will get a share of the ad money for the first time.
The platform is currently testing mid-roll advertising in the Stories of a small group of US creators, with a wider rollout expected in the next months. Snapchat will share revenue when an advertisement is placed within Star’s story.

The company announced that it will pay out $1 million per day through the end of 2020. Snapchat also said that it is currently paying millions of dollars every month to creators who make top Spotlight videos.
Last year, Snapchat announced Spotlight Challenges – cash prizes for users creating top videos using specific lenses, sounds, or topics. The company also said, In 2021, it paid out more than $250 million to creators.
According to The Verge, This comes shortly after Snapchat signaled that users were moving toward TikTok-Esque content over Stories. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel told investors earlier this month that users are spending less time posting and viewing stories and instead of watching content on Spotlight, Snapchat’s TikTok equivalent.
Revenue sharing Formula: The company says that the revenue share is based on a formula that takes into account metrics like how often you post and how much engagement your posts get.
Eligibility Criteria: The feature is only available to Snap Stars, who are creators or public figures with large followings that have been verified on Snapchat, indicated by a gold star.
